Music Video 2010

Over the next few weeks, you will undertake the A2 music video and print promo materials task.

You will be working in a group of 2 or 3 as selected by the teachers and you will make a package of materials for an artist/band from a selection provided by us. This task requires a highly professional approach and systematic record keeping throughout. you will be marked on your contribution to the work of the group.

Research and Planning 20 marks (teacher observation and evidence on the blog)
Construction 60 marks (your contribution to the products- video (40), digipack(10) and magazine ad(10))
Evaluation 20 marks (from a series of four questions related to the project as a whole)

The video MUST include lipsynch and a mixture of performance and other material.

You will go through a number of stages which must all be recorded and evidenced on your blog.

1. Preparatory exercises on Final Cut: cutting and ordering footage to music; adding effects and transitions; synching existing footage; shooting and editing a 'karaoke' video; shooting a video as a class

2. research work: looking at a range of music videos and analysing them; examining the strengths and weaknesses of old student work

3. Pitching for one of the selection of tracks provided; planning the video and producing an animatic; taking test and recce shots, making a moodboard and a timeline

4. Shooting and editing the video and producing a rough cut and final versions by the deadlines

5. giving feedback to other groups on their ideas, animatics and rough cuts and taking feedback on your own; acting upon it.

6. researching album covers and digipacks and magazine ads for releases and showing evidence of your research

7. planning and making the print products by the deadlines.

8. Evaluating your work using the framework questions and tasks in digital format.

Schedule:
Preparatory tasks (Jan 5-15)
Research work; set music choices, piching and early planning (Jan 18-22)
Planning, test shots, animatic, timeline, moodboard, draft print products (Jan 25-Feb 5)
Shooting (feb 8-12) NB we hope to use the Junction stage
Editing (Feb 22-26- rough cut due on 26th)
Final version of video complete Tue 9 mar; final print work Thur 11 march
Evaluation work Mar 12-19
